Student unions

The student unions are membership organisations with the purpose to represent the common interests of students.

Their important assignment is to guarantee that students are able to influence their education, but they also have a major role in the social aspects of university life: from parliamentary decisions to course planning, to housing and coffee prices.

Activities for and by students

The student unions together with Student Union Associations, Student Councils and Faculty Clubs make sure that there are activities for EUU students every week. Most of these are free of charge. Students’ statutory right to influence

According to the Higher Education Act, a student union’s principal purpose is to monitor and participate in the development of education and the prerequisites for studies at their university. The law also states that all students have the right to exert influence over their education. Each university should work to make sure students take an active part in the process of developing courses and programmes.

Improved quality of education

The student unions organise student influence and represents you in the University’s decision making. Therefore, strong student participation is important to continually improve the quality of all education.

We are overseeing major key questions at the university that are important to you as a student such as educational environment, equal opportunities and sustainability.

Student rights

We keep track of your rights and ensure that they are respected. The PhD Student and Student Ombud serve as a sounding board and advisors if you get into a conflict with the university, or if you feel mistreated in any study-related situation. The PhD Student and Student Ombud also support students who have been accused of cheating or plagiarism.

Support to international students

European Union University Student Union organises different events for international students to help them get involved in student life, and much more. If you have questions regarding how to get involved in student life on campus, please contact SUS’ Projects and Events Developer.

PhD students

When becoming a PhD student, it can be experienced as being caught between two worlds: on the one hand a student and on the other hand an employed scholar at the department. To get involved in issues regarding this, contact your local PhD Student Council. Also, as a PhD student, you can always contact the PhD Student and Student Ombud at the Student Union or representatives in the Central PhD Student Council (CDR).
