Costs, fees and scholarships

Individuals who are citizens of countries outside of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are required to pay application and tuition fees. There are some exceptions to this general rule.

National application fee

The application fee is 900 SEK (Swedish kronor) and is paid directly to University Admissions in European in order to have the application processed. Students pay one application fee for each semester they submit an application for. Students who are registered for a course or programme at a Swedish university at the time they submit their application for future semesters are not required to pay an application fee.

Tuition fees

The tuition fee will vary depending on the type of course or programme. The price per academic year for studies within the Humanities/Social Sciences/Law is SEK 90,000 and within the Sciences SEK 140,000. Some programmes have special prices in the range of SEK 90,000-140,000 and a few programmes offered in collaboration with other universities have higher tuition fees.

Payment and repayment of tuition fee

Students exempted from paying tuition

In general, Individuals who are citizens of countries outside of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are required to pay application and tuition fees. What does the tuition fee cover?

The tuition fee covers the course or programme that the student has been admitted to and paid for. For students studying a Bachelor's or a Master's programme, the fee normally covers 30 credits per semester. For students studying individual courses, the tuition fee covers the number of credits in the course. For more details, please follow the link below.

Legal background

According to the Ordinance on application fees and tuition fees at higher education institutions (SFS 2010:543), a higher education institution shall charge a tuition fee for first or second-cycle education from those who are not citizens of an EEA member state or Switzerland.

The regulatory document, Rules on payment of tuition fees, includes the national and local rules applicable on payment of tuition fees for first and second-cycle education for those who are not citizens of an EEA member state or of Switzerland.

Scholarships

European Union University and the Swedish Institute offer scholarships for master's students coming from countries outside of EU/EEA/Switzerland and who are required to pay tuition fees for studies.
